How it looks in practice
At a trading company, every order that arrived by email was typed by hand into the ordering system, then again into the billing system, and then a delivery note was produced from it in Word. Three entries for the same order, about a hundred times a month. We connected the mailbox to the system: the order is read, opened automatically, updates inventory, produces a delivery note and sends the customer a confirmation. The employee who used to do this wasn't let go — she moved on to handling major accounts, which is what she had wanted to do in the first place. The process ran in parallel with the manual work for three weeks, and every gap between the two methods was checked before switching over fully. Today, when the process fails — for example, when an email arrives in an unusual format — an alert goes out immediately and the case is handled manually, instead of surfacing at the end of the month.
